Coins, demonetised currency and stamps of different countries were displayed at the three-day International Coins Exhibition-2024 on Sunday.
The coins and stamps exhibition was organised by Sreedhar’s College for Competitive Exams (CCE), in which many stamps of various countries were exhibited. “We exhibited coins made of copper, gold, silver, platinum and alloys. Coins from one paise to ₹20 were being showcased in the International Coins Expo,” Kommuru Sreedhar, founder of the CCE, who is also a numismatist, told The Hindu.
“We have seen the currency of more than 150 countries across the globe, outdated currency, the biggest currency note printed by Malaysia and plastic notes in the exhibition,” said an MCA student P. Srisitha, who visited the expo on Sunday.
“A group of six numismatists and philatelists collected ancient coins and currency printed at various mints. Visitors can see the coins of different eras in our exhibition,” says Mr. Sreedhar.
The idea in organsing exhibition was to explain the history of coins of different places in the world. Uncut notes of U.S. and the demonetised ₹500, ₹1,000 and ₹2,000 were displayed, said a philatelist Lakshmi Narayana.
“This was the first time, that I have seen ancient coins made before and after Independence. The history of the currency and coins of various countries was interesting,” said a class X student, V. Mohit, who came to the exhibition with his parents.
“Stamps exhibited on wildlife and the coins of ancient period were the highlights of the coins exhibition. The response for the expo was overwhelming,” Mr. Sreedhar said.
