Leaders of the Student Federation of India (SFI) on Sunday (December 1) said that the decision of a Guntur court to acquit the accused in the suicide case of Rishiteshwari, a student from Acharya Nagarjuna University, was unfortunate.
They demanded that the State government file an appeal in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, challenging the lower court’s decision, in order to ensure justice for the victim’s family. A Guntur court dismissed ANU student Rishiteswari’s suicide case on Friday, stating that the prosecution has failed to prove the guilt of the accused.
In a statement, SFI State leaders K. Prasanna Kumar and A. Ashok said that Ms. Rishiteshwari had mentioned incidents involving harassment by a professor during a function and a ragging incident involving three students.
Stating that the prolonged delay in arresting the accused raised suspicions about the handling of the case, they urged the government to revisit the case and hold the individuals responsible accountable.
