Three killed on Chennai-Bengaluru Highway in Vellore

Three persons were killed after the car they were travelling hit a parked lorry on the service lane below the elevated Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 44) in Konavattam that comes under Vellore Corporation limits on Wednesday.

Police said the deceased have been identified as M. Sowbarsadhik (33), S. Anes Ali (22) and N. Ushman (35). The first two persons were residents of Tondiarpet and Ushman belonged to Thiruvanmiyur. The fourth occupant in the vehicle M. Malik Basha (35), a resident of Kodungaiyoor, was injured.

Initial inquiry revealed that they were relatives and were involved in the leather business in Chennai. They were heading to Bengaluru for a business trip in a car that belonged to Ali, one of the victims. Ali was driving the car when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle as he failed to notice the parked lorry on the service lane due to thick mist. He rammed on to the rear side of the lorry. The incident happened around 4 a.m.

Immediately, passerby and other motorists rescued the four persons in the car. Based on the alert, Vellore North police also reached the spot and retrieved the mangled car from the lorry. Doctors at the Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore said that among four persons, three of them were dead on arrival. A case was registered by Vellore North police. A probe is under way.
