VIP treatment for actor at Sabarimala: TDB issues show-cause notices

In view of the Kerala High Court’s intervention regarding the VIP treatment extended to actor Dileep and a few others during their visit to the Sabarimala temple, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has issued notices to four officials on duty at the hill shrine seeking explanations on Saturday.

According to the TDB sources, charge memos were served to the administrative officer, executive officer, and two guards. The notices were based on a report by Devaswom Vigilance, which cited lapses by the officials, including providing accommodation at the Devaswom office complex and permitting temple entry through a special gate while blocking other devotees waiting in line.

In a statement, the TDB acknowledged the inconvenience caused to pilgrims due to the VIP treatment given to the actor. “The board is committed to ensuring equal access to infrastructure and a peaceful darshan for all devotees. Precautions will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future. Stern action will be taken against officials who fail to comply with this commitment,’‘ the statement read.

Taking a serious note of the incident, the HC had earlier directed the board to take steps to ensure that such incidents that obstruct proper darshan for pilgrims, including children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities, were not repeated during the season.
