The BBC’s Barbara Plett-Usher says she has heard gunfire and explosions but it is “relatively calm” in Damascus, after rebels took control of the Syrian capital.

President Assad is said to have left by plane to an unknown location, and “everyone is waiting to see what will happen next,” she added.
