Complete rain damage assessment to provide relief to farmers: Palaniswami

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday urged the DMK government to take steps to complete the enumeration process ascertaining the loss incurred by farmers due to heavy rains and to announce relief to them.

In a statement, the former CM pointed out that standing crops have been affected by rains in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, among other districts and the flow was high in the rivers in those districts.

Mr. Palaniswami insisted that officials should visit those affected areas to ascertain the loss incurred by farmers. Pointing out many areas in Tirunelveli district were inundated, he insisted that officials should deploy motors to pump out the water.

He also demanded that affected people be shifted to safety and that they were supplied with food, medicine and water. Referring to incidents in some places where people were staging protest over non receipt of relief, Mr. Palaniswami urged the DMK government to ensure that the relief reached all.
