House Republicans unveiled a new 116-page spending bill to avert a looming government shutdown, following President-elect Donald Trump’s rejection of a bipartisan deal. Backed by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and GOP leaders, the bill proposes funding the government until March 14 and extending the nation’s debt limit through January 30, 2027, a key Trump request.
However, Democrats, led by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), have criticised the proposal, calling it "laughable." The showdown continues as the shutdown deadline nears.
