Patna: Unidentified assailants shot dead one Akhilesh Yadav alias Golu Kumar, 35, in an area falling under Kodha police station area of Katihar district. The motive behind the killing is not known.
Police said Akhilesh, a resident of Pawai panchayat’s ward no. 13, was found dead near Dhobi ghat on Monday morning, where two empty cartridges were recovered. The police took the body into custody and sent it for postmortem.
Initial investigations revealed that Akhilesh used to work in the agriculture fields of the villagers on monthly wages.
The deceased’s cousin, Kishore Kumar Yadav, said: “The police informed them in the morning that his cousin’s body was found near Dhobi ghat. Akhilesh left the house around 8 pm on Sunday evening, saying he was going to Pawai, but he did not return home that night. Golu had no enmity or dispute with anyone.”
Katihar SP, Vaibhav Sharma, said the police are investigating the case from all angles. A case will be registered after the deceased’s family submits an application. Police are also conducting raids at suspicious locations to arrest the criminals involved in the crime.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the local villagers heard gunfire around 10.30pm on Sunday night. The forensic team collected samples from the crime spot. The police are questioning the neighbours and the family members to get some clues behind the murder,” said Pawai SDPO-II, Dharmendra Kumar.
