The State government will set up an agro park at Cherthala as part of the World-Bank-funded Kerala Climate Resilient Agri-Value Chain Modernisation (KERA) Project, Agriculture Minister P. Prasad has said.
Inaugurating the valedictory of Cherthala Polima-Karappuram Kazhchakal-2024, a ten-day agricultural expo organised by the Agriculture department at Cherthala on Sunday, Mr. Prasad said the ₹2,365-crore KERA project was aimed at the comprehensive development of the agricultural sector in the State.
He said that a special exhibition would be organised to unveil the history of the Cherthala region in connection with Karappuram Kazhchakal. As part of the agricultural expo, 120 stalls were set up with a focus on showcasing products related to the secondary agriculture sector. It helped generate over ₹1 crore in sales.
The Minister said that more than 1,200 farmers participated in various seminars organised as part of the fair. A project report, incorporating ideas that emerged from the seminars, will be prepared within three months to achieve the comprehensive development of local bodies in the region. A millet processing unit, planned following the first Karappuram Kazhchakal held in 2023, will be established at Cherthala soon, Mr. Prasad added.
Kanjikuzhy block panchayat president V.G. Mohanan presided.
