Patna: In a twin tragedy in a Khusrupur family, a man’s death by suicide, driven by life’s hardships, prompted his teen sister to take her own life shortly after she learnt of the incident on Monday.
Tragedy struck the family of one Garib Das, a resident of Mohsinpur in Khusrupur police station area of Patna district, when his 27-year-old son Roshan Kumar hanged himself at a house construction site, where he was staying at the time, said police.
According to police, they received information of Roshan’s death by suicide around 9.30am. Roshan, a daily-wage worker, hanged himself from a ceiling fan at the house under construction on Akhara Road in Khusrupur.
Khusrupur station house officer (SHO), DSP Ankita Kumari, said whilst the police were investigating Roshan’s death, they received news of another suicide, that of his sister, Roshni Kumari (18). “The woman died by hanging herself from a bamboo with her dupatta on the terrace of her house at Mohsinpur. Her neighbours, who went to dry their clothes on the terrace, saw the body and alerted the family members. She was taken to a hospital, but the doctors declared her brought dead. The man’s body was sent to Patna for postmortem examination, while the family refused to give the sister’s body for autopsy,” Ankita said.
She added according to the victims’ family, the man was in depression due to financial reasons and a dispute with his wife. “Hearing of her brother’s death, the sister got distressed as Roshan was the only earning member of the family,” the SHO said.
