Cop held for extorting ₹32 lakh from bizman

Chhapra: Station house officer (SHO) of Maker police station in Saran district, Ravi Ranjan Kumar, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly extorting Rs 32 lakh from a businessman, Saran SP Kumar Ashish said.
The SP said the victim, Rohan Kumar, a resident of Rouza Mohalla under the jurisdiction of Town police station, was travelling to Muzaffarpur via Rewa Ghat for business purposes. Near the Rewa Ghat bridge, his car was intercepted by the Maker SHO, who claimed he had information that the vehicle was carrying prohibited liquor.
“During the search, the SHO forcibly took possession of a bag containing Rs 32 lakh in cash. He then threatened Kumar, warning him that if he spoke up about the incident, he would be implicated in a drug trafficking case,” the SP said.
Kumar lodged a complaint at the Chhapra Town police station. Acting on the complaint, the SP assigned Marhoura DSP to investigate the matter. The investigation confirmed the allegations against the SHO.
During the probe, the police recovered the bag containing Rs 32 lakh from the room of home guard driver Anil Kumar Singh, who is accused of assisting in the crime. While the SHO has was arrested, the driver remains absconding.
The SP said departmental proceedings have been initiated against the SHO.
