Governor lauds contributions of ex-soldiers to nation’s defence

Patna: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Tuesday inaugurated the 9th Indian Armed Force veterans’ rally at the Bihar Regiment Centre (BRC) at Danapur cantonment, highlighting the contributions of former soldiers to the nation’s defence. The event, attended by several distinguished guests, served as a platform to honour ex-servicemen for their dedication and service to the country. Altogether 2,000 ex-servicemen, including ‘veer naris’ from Bihar and Jharkhand, attended the rally.
Addressing the rally as the chief guest, Khan praised the valour and sacrifices of the armed forces, emphasising the vital role that veterans play in shaping the country’s defence legacy. He acknowledged their commitment, not just during their service but also in their post-service lives, often contributing to society in various capacities to make the country more progressive and developed.
“The bravery and discipline of our armed forces, including the soldiers of the Bihar Regiment, have always been a source of pride for the nation. It is a privilege to be here today to pay homage to the heroes who have selflessly served our country,’ he said.
The event also saw the distribution of recognition awards to a number of ex-servicemen who made notable contributions in various fields after their retirement. The rally, which was part of the ongoing efforts to honour the state’s military veterans, also witnessed the governor felicitating 20 ‘veer naris’ with a token money of Rs 21000 each, handing over modified electric scooters to disabled ex-servicemen and giving appointment letters to six drivers on the occasion, said Maj General of Jharkhand and Bihar sub-area Vikas Bhardwaj.
The Bihar Regiment Centre, which has a storied history, was the perfect setting for the occasion as it has been home to many brave soldiers who served in key military operations. The rally attracted a large crowd of veterans, their families and local officials, all coming together to celebrate the military heritage of Bihar, said BRC commandant Brig Kamaldeep Jaspal.
In his closing remarks, the governor assured the veterans of the state govt’s continued support and commitment to their welfare. The event concluded with a salute to the veterans, offering floral tributes to Veer Smriti Sthal. The veterans’ rally at Danapur cantonment served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women in uniform and their enduring legacy in the defence of the nation, Khan said. “Our soldiers rise above family, caste and religion and think only about the nation,” he added.
