Live Updates: 16 Hours On, Hunt Underway For Saif Attacker, Cops Conduct Raids In Mumbai

A First Information Report (FIR) under sections 311 and 312 – pertaining to attempt to commit robbery or dacoity when armed with deadly weapons) – and 331(4) and 331 (6) and 331 (7) – pertaining to house-trespass or house-breaking – of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have been registered in connection with the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan’s at his house, police said.

According to sources, the attacker had demanded Rs 1 crore after entering actor Saif Ali Khan’s house.

Hours after the news of an attack on Saif Ali Khan’s surfaced online, actor Raveena Tandon, through an Instagram post, wished the ‘Hum Tum’ star a speedy recovery and voiced concern about the increased crimes in Bandra locality.

“Targeting celebrities and soft targets in what used to be a safe residential area has become rampant, with Bandra losing out to unruly elements. Accident scams, hawker mafia, encroachers, land grabbers and criminal elements racing on bikes phone and chain grabbing. Need stronger measures. Wishing you a speedy recovery,” she posted.

Police have said that the probe so far has found that the attacker entered the actor’s home to commit burglary. According to police sources, the intruder entered the compound next to the building where the actor stays. He then scaled the wall to cross over.

Once inside the compound, the intruder took a flight of stairs on the rear side of the building to reach the floor on which the actor lives. Police have said the intruder gained access to Mr Khan’s apartment through a fire escape.

According to reports, Mr Khan’s house help Eliyama Phillipes alias Lima was the first to spot the intruder around 2 am last night. She screamed and this alerted Mr Khan. A fight between the actor and the intruder followed. The intruder stabbed Mr Khan six times before escaping the spot. CCTV cameras have captured him entering and exiting the building from the rear side, sources in police said. Police are questioning the house help, among others.

Police have released a photo of the accused behind the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence.

According to sources, the Mumbai Police are holding raids in three locations in Kandivali, Wadala and Prabhadevi areas to nab the accused.

Speaking to reporters, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said: “The police have given you all details regarding the attack (on actor Saif Ali Khan). What kind of attack is this, who is actually behind this and what was the intention behind the attack is all before you.”

As the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan sparked a political row in the state, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the incident is “unfortunate” but it would not be right to say that Mumbai is not safe. “Of all the mega cities in the country, Mumbai is still among the safe ones,” he said. He added that the police have taken the attack on the actor seriously and a probe is underway. 

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan live in the upscale Bandra West area of Mumbai, where real-estate prices are sky-high and bumping into the stars an everyday affair. The couple’s home is in a 12-storey building called Satguru Sharan, which they reportedly bought from Satguru Builders in 2013 for Rs 48 crore. The Khans’ home is spread over four floors. Nearly 12 hours after the life-threatening attack on actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra home, Mumbai police have identified a suspect, sources have said. The suspect entered the premises of the actor’s home from the adjacent building after scaling the wall in between, sources in the crime branch said. The police also suspect that one of Mr Khan’s house helps knew the attacker and gave him entry into the house. This help is now being questioned as Mumbai Police tries to get to the bottom of the shocking attack on the 54-year-old actor in one of the poshest areas of the Maximum City.

The actor has suffered six stab injuries, one of them near his spine, and has been operated upon at Lilavati Hospital. He is reportedly out of danger.

Saif Ali Khan’s spinal fluid leaked out after shards of the attacker’s knife lodged into his spine during the actor’s fight with the intruder at his Bandra home last night, a doctor at Lilavati Hospital said today. The doctor said they repaired the spinal injury and also performed plastic surgeries on his hand and neck, where he was stabbed. He added that the 54-year-old actor is out of danger and recovering well.

In his statement to the media, Dr Nitin Dange said, “Saif Ali Khan was admitted to the hospital at 2 am with an alleged history of assault by some unknown person. He sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife in the spine,” he said.

Police said in a statement that the accused used the fire escape to enter actor Saif Ali Khan’s residence to carry out a possible burglary attempt.

One accused has been identified, and 10 teams have been formed to apprehend him.

Dixit Gedam, DCP Zone 9, Mumbai Police, said, “Last night, the accused used a fire escape staircase to enter Saif Ali Khan’s house. It appears to be a robbery attempt. We working to arrest the accused.”

Twenty-three-year-old Ibrahim, also an actor, helped his injured father into the three-wheeler after he could not find a car ready to leave. Determined not to lose time, Ibrahim and Saif got into the auto-rickshaw and rushed to the hospital, about two kilometres from Mr Khan’s Bandra home.

A video captured moments after the attack shows Mr Khan’s wife and actor Kareena Kapoor Khan standing next to the auto-rickshaw and speaking to the house staff.

When the attacker entered Saif Ali Khan’s house, the maid saw him and started shouting. The actor, who was present in the house at that time, intervened after which a scuffle took place and the maid got hurt on her hand.

At the time of the incident, Kareena Kapoor Khan and their children Taimur and Jeh were at home. All three are safe.

Floor polishing work has been going on at the actor’s house for the last two-three days. The police is also interrogating these workers.

Injured staff at Saif Ali Khan’s residence was identified as Ariyama Philip, while three staff are being questioned.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police and Crime Branch have formed 15 teams to probe the attack.

Saif Ali Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger, his team said in a stateme. He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress. 

All family members are safe and the police is investigating the incident.

Saif Ali Khan will be shifted to the deluxe suite on the VIP floor of Lilavati Hospital once he is brought out of the operation theatre.

Sniffer dogs have been deployed and security has been increased outside the building in which actor Saif Ali Khan stays with his family after a knife attack left the actor with six wounds early this morning.

While initial information suggested an unauthorised entry into the house, no one was captured on CCTV cameras entering the premises within two hours before the attack. The cops now suspect the attacker may have been hiding inside the building.

Bollywood actor Pooja Bhatt reacted to the incident and called for more police security in the Bandra area.

“Can this lawlessness please be curbed @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice? We need more Police presence in Bandra. The city & especially the queen of the suburbs has never felt so unsafe before. Kind Attn,” she said.

Congress MP from Mumbai North Central, Varsha Gaikwad on Thursday targeted the Maharashtra government after Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan sustained minor injuries following a fight with an intruder who entered his residence.

In a post on X, Gaikwad said that the incident happened in Bandra which is considered a safe neighbourhood.

“Extremely shocked at this brazen attack. What is going on in Mumbai? That this happens in Bandra in a what is known as a safe neighbourhood, is what is most concerning. What security can the common man then expect?” the Congress MP said.

She also demanded answers from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over the incident.

“Day in and day out we hear of gun violence, robberies, stabbing incidents in Mumbai and MMR and the government has no answers. We need answers Dev_Fadnavis,” she said.

On Wednesday, before the attack on Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan had a dinner date with her sister Karisma Kapoor and her close friends Sonam and Rhea Kapoor. The actress shared a glimpse of their dinner date. The caption read, “Girls night in.”

According to sources, police are interrogating three employees working at Saif Ali Khan’s house. An employee working at Mr Khan’s house was also injured in the incident.

The Mumbai Crime Branch has been entrusted with the responsibility of a parallel investigation. Seven teams have been formed to search for the suspect.

Actor Jr NTR and director Kunal Kohli have expressed concern over the knife attack on Saif Ali Khan and wished speedy recovery to the actor who is undergoing treatment at the Lilavati Hospital.

Mr Kohli said the incident is shocking and it was very brave of the actor to fight back. He questioned how an intruder could enter the high-profile building, emphasising the need to consider security upgrades for celebrities.

Mentioning that such attacks on celebrities were prevalent in the 1990s, Mr Kohli said a similar trend now is worrying.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also brought up the attack that killed veteran politician Baba Siddique and the firing outside actor Salman Khan’s home.

“Baba Siddique ji’s family is still awaiting justice after his shocking murder. Salman Khan forced to live in a bulletproof house. Now it is Saif Ali Khan All in Bandra. An area which has the highest concentration of celebrities, which is supposed to have adequate security. If celebrities are not safe then who in Mumbai is? Wishing Saif Ali Khan a speedy recovery,” Ms Chaturvedi said.

CCTV cameras at Saif Ali Khan’s home did not capture anyone entering the premises within two hours before the attack.

This points to the fact that whoever attacked the actor had entered the building earlier and had been waiting to strike. Police are scanning CCTV footage to identify the attacker, who fled after stabbing the 54-year-old actor six times during a scuffle.

The attack reportedly took place around 2.30 am and police sources have said CCTV footage did not show anyone entering after midnight. Police suspect that the attacker entered the actor’s home earlier and hid inside, sources said.

The life-threatening attack on actor Saif Ali Khan has triggered a political attack on the Devendra Fadnavis government, with Opposition parties in Maharashtra questioning the Maximum City’s law and order situation.

Priyanka Chaturvedi, Rajya Sabha MP from Shiv Sena (UBT), asked “if celebrities are not safe, who in Mumbai is”.

Mumbai Police have launched an investigation into the attack on Saif Ali Khan. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam commented, “The actor and the intruder had a scuffle. The actor is injured and is being treated. Investigation is ongoing.”

The actor was taken to Lilavati Hospital for medical attention, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition remains under observation following surgery.

The attack took place at the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building, where Saif Ali Khan and his actor wife Kareena Kapoor Khan reside. According to police reports, the intruder initially had a confrontation with Khan’s maid.

As the actor intervened to defuse the situation, the intruder became aggressive, resulting in a scuffle. During the scuffle, Khan sustained injuries.
