Patna: A 25-year-old youth was electrocuted after coming in contact with a live electric wire laid by a farmer on his field to ward off wild animals in Chandrahathi village under Kudhani police station area of Muzaffarpur district early on Friday morning.
The incident led to protest by deceased Manoj Kumar Singh’s family members and other villagers who blocked Muzaffarpur-Hajipur highway, demanding action against the farmer and compensation.

Police have initiated action against the farmer despite no formal complaint by the family.
Kudhani circle officer (CO) Anil Kumar Santoshi said Singh went to the field to answer nature’s call when the incident happened. “Local villagers informed the Kudhani police, which arrived at the scene and sent the body for autopsy to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital. After the autopsy, the angry villagers blocked the Muzaffarpur-Hajipur highway near their village by placing the body on the road.”
Police tried to calm the agitated crowd, but the people were not willing to listen. The police then assured them that an FIR would be filed against the accused. Additionally, the CO promised compensation, which eventually convinced the people to lift the road blockade.
“An immediate relief of Rs 23,000 was given to the family under Bihar Kabir Antyeshti Anudan Yojana and National Family Benefit Scheme. We will initiate further action for the compensation to the next of kin of the deceased according to the investigation report of the police,” said the CO.
Kudhani station house officer Vinay Kumar said that no formal complaint was filed by the family yet. “The police are trying to identify the owner of the agricultural field where the incident took place. We have contacted the officials of the power holding company concerned to assess the voltage of the electricity flowing into the wire,” he said.
