Shooter of teacher murder shot at by police in Gopalganj

Patna: A criminal, who had allegedly shot dead a govt schoolteacher on January 10, was shot at in an exchange of fire between him and the police in Gopalganj district on Sunday morning.
According to the police, the incident occurred when the accused, Abhishek Kumar Yadav, 22, of Bhagwan Tola village in the Uchkagaon police station area, was arrested and being taken to a place to recover weapons hidden by him.
Abhishek allegedly opened fire on the police, forcing them to retaliate. He was shot at in the leg at Piprahia bridge in the Uchkagaon police station area.
Hathua SDPO, Anand Mohan, said: “We received a tip-off that the main shooter in the murder case of the schoolteacher Arvind Kumar Yadav (50), Abhishek, was hiding inside his house. Based on the information, the police conducted a raid and arrested him.”
Mohan said during interrogation, Abhishek revealed that he hid the weapon used in the murder in a field near the Piprahi bridge.
“When the police took him to the location, he opened fire on the police team as soon as he retrieved the weapon. The team had a narrow escape and it shot Abhishek in the leg in retaliation. He was first taken to the district hospital, and after initial treatment, was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH),” he added.
Police said the schoolteacher, Arvind, of Shyampur Jhirwa Tola under the Uchkagaon police station area, was shot dead while he was on way to the school on his motorcycle. Three motorcycle-borne criminals shot him multiple times, killing him on the spot.
According to the police, Arvind was posted at the primary school in Jhirwa village. The deceased’s wife was previously mukhiya of Jhirwa panchayat for two consecutive terms. Arvind was also elected mukhiya around 20 years ago. Later, he joined the school. Currently, their eldest son, Vishwajeet Yadav, is the head of the Uchkagaon block.
“Arvind was killed in a local political conspiracy by some villagers. An FIR was registered against five named people of the same village. Two people have been arrested in the case so far, including the injured shooter and Ranjit Goswami. Both are unnamed accused in the case. We are scanning the criminal history of the arrested people,” said Uchkagaon SHO, Pravin Prabhakar.
