Patna: A 32-year-old man died, and five other persons in his family were injured after their car driver lost control of the speeding vehicle and rammed into the road divider on Mahatma Gandhi Setu Bridge late Wednesday.
The victim has been identified as Vipin Singh, a resident of Dumri village in Nayagaon, Saran district. The injured persons, Jayaprakash Singh (35), Pinki Devi (30), Harsh Kumar (14), Rangoli Kumari (15), and Ravi Ranjan Kumar (12), are undergoing treatment at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in the state capital.
According to the police, six family members were returning to Chhapra from J P Ganga Path when the car driver lost control of the steering and rammed into the road divider on the bridge.
Ganga Bridge SHO Abhishek Tripathi said, “Everyone in the car went for a drive to J P Ganga Path in Patna. Then, they visited the Patna Junction. After the outing, they were on their way home. Meanwhile, the driver lost control of the car and crashed it into a divider near pillar no-1 of Mahatma Gandhi Setu Bridge, resulting in the death of one person on the spot.”
Upon information, a police team reached the spot and sent Vipin’s body for a post-mortem examination at the Hajipur Sadar Hospital, he said, adding, “The injured were referred to PMCH after primary treatment at the Hajipur Sadar Hospital. The woman and children in the car are out of danger.”
