Patna: Commissioner of railway safety (CRS) of the eastern circle, Kolkata, S Mitra conducted a speed trial of a passenger train on the Nawada-Tilaiya stretch on Wednesday. The 17-km long route located under the Kiul-Gaya section of the ECR’s Danapur division, was tested for its operational feasibility on Wednesday.
According to Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary, the speed trial was a part of the ongoing efforts to make railway traffic operations smoother across this key section, after opening of the newly built track doubling project at a total stretch of 124 km from Kiul to Gaya. The trial was successful with the train operating within the desired parameters for speed, safety and performance, he said.
Once the entire stretch is approved following the trial results, it is expected that traffic movements on this section will be fit to run both passenger and goods trains without facing any operation hassle. In addition, this will not only reduce delays, but also improve the overall efficiency of the network as the Kiul- Gaya double lines are fully electrified now, the DRM said.
According to ECR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra, out of 124 km long distance Kiul- Gaya route, the railways had earlier completed track doubling work up to 107 km distance. But the completion of 17 km remaining track doubling work, the railways has completed the project with the facilities of track doubling and electrification work on the KG route, he said, adding railway safety and operational assessments were crucial for maintaining the high standards set by Indian Railways. This trial run marked an important step towards achieving better connectivity and reliability in the rail network in Danapur division.
