NEW DELHI: Most exit polls on Wednesday predicted BJP’s win in the Delhi assembly polls. While BJP expressed confidence that its actual performance would exceed the projected numbers, AAP said that exit polls “historically” underestimated the party’s performance.
AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “We fought three elections in Delhi, and this is the fourth assembly election we are fighting. In 2013 and 2015, exit polls showed that we would be defeated, and in 2020, exit polls indicated that we would get fewer numbers. In the same way, in 2025, it is being shown that we will get fewer seats.” Bharadwaj added, “BJP always silences common people’s voices so they don’t speak out of fear. AAP’s vote share always comes out more than what is shown in the exit polls.”
The AAP leader claimed that the party would win with a big mandate and that all these exit polls showing otherwise would be proven wrong. “I visited several areas of my constituency and saw that people were upbeat. People were showing victory signs, telling me by stopping their vehicles that AAP would win,” he said.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said that their party was confident of winning the election with a huge margin. “On Feb 8, our victory will be more spectacular than what exit polls have shown today. In this election, voters of Delhi chose to shed the corruption and anarchism of Kejriwal’s govt and voted for BJP, which stands for development.” The BJP MP from South Delhi, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, claimed that the party would comfortably form govt as people of Delhi voted for change.
Congress, too, is expecting a better outcome when the poll results are out. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav stated that the party fought a very good election and that he doesn’t believe in exit poll results. “Things are anyway going to get clear by Saturday, and the efforts we made will be converted into a vote bank. While we worked diligently at the grassroots level to revive our cadre, the kind of support we got from senior leadership has further strengthened our spirit to work dedicatedly. We reminded people of the works done by us during Sheila Dikshit’s golden era and developed a strong connection with them,” Yadav added. He said, “The way voters turned up in large numbers in his (Badli) constituency in favour of Congress, I am hopeful that voters in other constituencies also had a similar reaction.”
