Gaya: Deputy mukhiya of Chiraila panchayat and Belaganj block secretary of JD(U), Mahesh Mishra, was shot dead by criminals in Chulihara village around 10pm on Wednesday. The incident occurred when the deceased was returning home after attending a “shraadh” feast. Mahesh was about 500 metres from his house when the assailants attacked him. Another person accompanying him managed to flee through the fields while Mahesh attempted to escape via the road. However, the criminals caught up with him and opened fire indiscriminately. Riddled with bullets, Mahesh was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead. “Police have arrested Kamta Mishra, Sudhir Mishra and Randhir Mishra, all from Chulihara. They have confessed to their involvement, citing an old rivalry with the deceased. On Wednesday night, a fresh altercation occurred, which led them to commit the crime in a fit of rage. Their past criminal records are being verified,” Gaya SSP Anand Kumar said. “A special team, headed by deputy SP (law and order) Ravi Prakash Singh has been formed to conduct raids and arrest the remaining accused. Adequate police personnel have been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure,” he added.
