Expert: Follow ethics for high-impact research

Gaya: Associate professor of biochemistry at Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, Ghulam Mohammad Ashraf, on Saturday said the high impact of research work depends on following the ethics as per international norms. “It enables a researcher to contribute to the global research arena,” Ashraf, who hails from Gaya, told the students of the ‘School of earth, biological and environmental sciences’ at the Central University of South Bihar regarding the selection of topics and the right journals for publication.

He exhorted them to explore opportunities and apply for higher studies and research positions at various institutions in China.
Ashraf’s primary field of research is neuropharmacology, currently focused on the molecular and behavioural mechanisms of novel therapeutic strategies in animal models of multiple sclerosis. He shared information about his lab’s current interest in understanding and treating multiple sclerosis, the only neurodegenerative disorder that could be reversed.
His lab is also investigating the effects of new anti-diabetic drugs in the possible attenuation or reversal of weight gain induced by antipsychotic medications. He has been granted four international patents. Faculty members and students asked many questions during the session.
