Patna: In the fifth leg of his Pragati Yatra, chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday inaugurated completed projects and laid the foundation stones for new ones, totalling 263 schemes worth slightly over Rs 820 crore for Nalanda district. The new projects included five related to irrigation, seven for road infrastructure, two for road overbridges (ROBs) and the development of three tourist spots.
The main function to inaugurate and launch the schemes remotely was held at Nanand village in Silao block. The CM also inspected several completed schemes and ongoing development projects as well as models of roads slated for construction.
Overall, he inaugurated 177 completed schemes valued at Rs 361 crore and laid the foundation stones for 86 new schemes, amounting to Rs 459 crore.
Given that parts of the district are vulnerable to annual floods, new schemes for flood control, management and anti-erosion work were also introduced. These include the renovation of the Panchane river irrigation scheme and the Bargania paeen. Anti-erosion work will be undertaken on the Lokaeen river in Karaipurdarai, Hilsa, Ekarpursarai and Islampur blocks. Flood protection measures will be implemented at eight locations between Makanpur and Dhanki in Noorsarai and Harnaut blocks. Also, steps will be taken to resolve the persistent waterlogging issue at Noorsarai Sangat. The zamindari bunds at Dhanwadih and Gopalbad will be renovated.
The CM announced that the required land has been acquired for the Hilsa East bypass and work will commence soon. An ROB will be constructed at Sohsarai Halt while another ROB and approach road will be built on the Ekbari Bazaar-Upraura Mor road section, which will also be widened and strengthened. The Benar-Saksohra road will undergo similar upgrades. The approach road to Baba Makhdoom Saheb Mazar will be improved and the old Ranchi road will also be widened.
The CM asked the officials concerned to develop a riverfront along the Panchane River at Kosuk Ghat, transforming it into an attraction for visitors. The road leading to the sports academy will be widened and the Brahmkund area will also be developed.
To promote eco-tourism, conservation efforts will be undertaken at historical and heritage sites in the Rajgir forest area, with further development planned for J P Udyan, Venu Van, and Ghora Katora. A dinosaur park will also be developed to enhance tourism. Nitish announced the establishment of an agricultural research centre at Sarmera.
New buildings will be constructed for the block and circle offices in Asthawan, Islampur, Chandi, Rahui, Harnaut and Giriak.
During his visit, the CM inspected exhibits displayed by various departments and Jeevika groups. He also toured the Mohanpur fish seed farm where fish farming takes place in 16 ponds spread over 12 acres. He visited the Rajgir Kund campus of Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ School in Bind block where a 100-bed hostel is being built at a cost of Rs 2.18 crore.
He distributed cheques worth Rs 260 crore among 10,922 self-help groups, Rs 29 crore among 10,775 SHGs and Rs 9 crore among 2,753 SHGs.
Among those accompanying the CM were Ministers Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Prem Kumar and Shrawan Kumar, MP Kaushalendra Kumar, MLAs Kaushal Kishore and Krishna Murari Sharan and MLC Neeraj Kumar.
