‘Pvt tubewells to be restored in 5 dists’

Patna: State minor irrigation minister Santosh Kumar Suman on Monday said his department has been working on implementing the schemes related to the restoration of private tubewells, as announced by CM Nitish Kumar during his Pragati Yatra in five districts.
The districts concerned are Bhagalpur, Gaya, Aurangabad, Nalanda and Kaimur. Recalling the schemes announced by the CM during his Pragati Yatra, Suman said they would be completed on time.
In the state, the minor irrigation department improves irrigation facilities under programmes such as Jal Jeevan Hariyali, those related to the restoration of traditional irrigation facilities like aahar, paeen and ponds, as well as the construction of check dams and the restoration of private tubewells.
Suman said the department had set a target to complete 139 schemes by June this year, involving an expenditure of Rs 260 crore from the 2024-25 financial year. This would restore the irrigation potential of 25,822 hectares of land. Regarding the 2023-24 financial year, of the sanctioned 981 schemes valued at Rs 1,139 crore, 765 schemes had been completed, he added.
Overall, until 2023-24, of the 2,377 schemes, 2,217 had been completed, improving the irrigation potential of 2.28 lakh hectares of land, the minister said.
