Buxar: Two school-going students drowned in Ganga river at Someshwar Ghat in Buxar on Wednesday evening. The deceased were identified as Farhan, alias Rehan (13), and Shahzaib Hussain (12), both residents of Naya Bazar locality of the town.
Farhan, a student of Class VIII, and Shahzaib of Class IV had left their houses on Wednesday evening with their bicycles, but never returned home.
According to Town Police Station SHO Manoj Kumar, both the boys went to Someshwar Ghat, where they drowned in the river while bathing. Both were fished out of the river with the help of the local residents and taken to Buxar Sadar Hospital, where the doctors declared them dead, said Kumar.
Shahzaib’s father Sajid Hussain said they first searched for the boys in the Mahashivratri mela of the town but to no avail. Later, he received the news of drowning of the two children, following which he rushed to Buxar Sadar Hospital, where he identified the bodies.
Town Police Station SHO Kumar said after the identification of both the boys late on Wednesday night, postmortem was done, and the bodies were handed over to the family members on Thursday morning.
On the day, the local people demanded compensation from the administration for the victim families. Buxar Sadar circle officer Prashant Shandilya said compensation would be given to the families as per govt provisions.
