Patna: A 25-year-old woman was found dead at her in-laws’ house in Kala Diyara village under Salimpur police station area of Patna on Thursday morning. The deceased, Punam Devi‘s husband, Chandan Rai, and her in-laws are absconding after her death, police said, adding that her body bore multiple injury marks.
Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO-II) of Barh, Abhishek Singh, who reached the spot, said they received the information about the death of a married woman at Diyara village around 11am. “The station house officer of Salimpur police station rushed to the spot and conducted investigation. The police sent the body to Barh sub-divisional hospital for a post-mortem examination, and also called a forensic team to collect evidence from the spot. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of death under suspicious conditions. There are minor injury marks on her neck and arms that suggest strangulation or assault. However, actual cause of the death will be revealed in the autopsy report. The police are probing the case from both angles — murder and suicide,” he said.
According to the woman’s family members, Punam was married about seven years back to Darogi Rai, elder son of Vishun Dev Rai and brother of Chandan Rai. “Punam, a native of Raghopur in Vaishali district, and Darogi had a son. After the death of her first husband due to electrocution, the woman was forced to marry her brother-in-law Chandan about 2-3 years back. But their relationship remained estranged as the couple often fought and had their differences. On March 5, the woman’s husband had also beaten her up. Efforts are being made to detain her absconding husband and in-laws, and further legal action is being taken in this case,” the officer said.
