Patna: Patna traffic police, in a bid to decongest the Station Road and the nearby areas, is set to unveil a revamped traffic plan which is likely to be operational by next month. New infrastructure like pedestrian subway, multi-modal hub near the Patna GPO, multi-level car parking (MLCP) near Buddha Smriti Park and Tata Parking near the Patna Junction will be leveraged under the plan.
Patna Traffic, SP, Aprajit Lohan, said the multi-modal hub has eight gates, and the first gate is connected to the first-floor ramp. “This gate will be used for four-wheelers and three-wheelers. Larger vehicles like buses will not be allowed on this route. Gate 6 will be used for the exit of four-wheelers/three-wheelers coming down from the first floor. A lane between gate number 1 and 6 will be reserved for buses and cars,” he said.
As per the traffic plan, three-wheelers and taxis will only be allowed to turn right towards R-Block upon exit. Thus, only those three-wheelers or taxis that need to go via R Block to Atal Path, Patna Airport, Phulwarisharif, and Danapur will exit from the first floor. Only private vehicles will be allowed towards the station, but taxis or three-wheelers will not go towards the Patna Junction.
“Gate number 2, which leads to New Market Road, and Gate number 8 (Budh Marg) are reserved for bus entry only. Buses will exit from Gate number 5 after moving clockwise inside. Upon exit, all buses will only turn right towards R-Block. No bus will go towards Patna Junction. Gate numbers 3, 4, and 7 will be used only by pedestrians. Gate 7 will be used as an emergency exit,” Lohan said.
He further said two types of three-wheelers will exit from MLCP near Buddha Smriti Park. “Reserved autos will be allowed to go via Fraser Road to Dak Bungalow, Gandhi Maidan, and Bailey Road, or via Goria Toli to Rajendra Nagar and Kankarbagh. Regular autos will only be allowed to go via Fraser Road to Dak Bungalow, Gandhi Maidan, and Bailey Road.”
All types of three-wheelers will be prohibited from entering towards Patna Junction from Dak Bungalow (south). They can use Budh Marg to reach MLCP or the multi-modal hub, he said.
Only three-wheelers going towards Goria Toli, Ramkrishna Nagar, Kankarbagh, and Rajendra Nagar will exit from Tata Parking. There will be no bus operation from Goria Toli towards Patna Junction. All buses going to Patna Junction will come via Goria Toli to Exhibition Road intersection and Dak Bungalow. After dropping or picking up passengers at their designated bus stops, they will directly proceed towards Goria Toli.
