Temperature to drop in parts of Maharashtra: IMD

A day after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heatwave warning for a few cities in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, the IMD forecasted the temperature to decrease gradually fading the heatwave-like situation.

Mumbai city recorded its first 40-degree temperature on March 11. The weather department issued a warning to Thane, Palghar, Raigad (Navi Mumbai) and Ratnagiri. “For the past two days, some parts of the State witnessed a high rise in temperature. The temperature is decreasing, and humid and dry conditions will appear in parts of the State,” said Sunil Kamble, Director at IMD.

According to the weather forecast and warnings from IMD, the conditions are likely to be dry for the next four days (March 13 to March 16). However, the Akola and Chandrapur districts are likely to witness a gradual temperature rise. IMD has forecasted heat wave conditions on March 14 and 15 for Akola, and March 15 for Chandrapur.

Akola recorded 41 degrees Celsius on Thursday, while Chandrapur recorded 40 degrees Celsius. The forecasted maximum temperature until March 16 for Akola is 41 degrees Celsius and thereafter it will come down to 39 degrees Celsius. For Chandrapur, the maximum forecasted temperature for two days is 40 degrees Celsius and later comes down to 38 degrees Celsius.

The temperature in other parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada is 38 degrees Celsius on average. Nagpur recorded 40 degrees Celsius, while Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recorded 37 degrees Celsius. Mumbai’s temperature on Thursday was 36 degrees Celsius and will remain the same till the end of the week.
