Man dies by suicide in Barh; FIR against wife, in-laws

Patna: A 36-year-old man died by suicide at his residence in Barh, adjacent to Patna, on Monday, reportedly over harassment from his wife and in-laws. The police have registered an FIR against three people, including hiss wife.
The deceased, Sujit Kumar, left a suicide note, in which he accused them of repeatedly asking for money and threatened him to implicate him and his family in a false case of dowry torture. Kumar, a resident of Dayachak village in Barh, worked in a grocery shop and gave tuition to children.
Arun Kumar Singh, the SHO of Barh police station, said that the man hanged himself from a ceiling fan after dinner on Sunday. “A police team reached the spot and recovered the body, which was sent to Barh subdivisional hospital for postmortem. A suicide note was also recovered from his room, and the police are examining it. In the letter, he held his wife, mother-in-law and brother-in-law responsible for his extreme step,” he said.
He added Sujit had married Neetu Kumari (31), a native of Judwanpur, Vaishali, on November 30, 2020. “After a dispute, the woman left her in-laws’ place and went to live with her mother and brother in Hajipur. The victim mentioned in the suicide note that his wife, brother-in-law and mother-in-law constantly demanded money, and he was tired of it. He also said in the letter that he was the only bread-earner in the family and earned up to Rs 10,000,” the SHO added.
A case has been registered against the woman, her mother and brother. The SHO said the case is being investigated, and the statement of the man’s family has been taken. “The police will interrogate the victim’s wife.”
Ramchandra Prasad, Kumar’s father, said, “My son was tortured by his wife and in-laws. He was very upset for a long time.”
