Patna: A man and his mother were arrested in Patliputra police station area of Patna on Thursday following the alleged suicide of his wife on Wednesday night, police said. Baby Devi (23) was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her in-law’s house in Gosai Tola in Patliputra area. Patliputra station house officer (SHO) Raj Kishore Kumar said the victim’s husband Vicky Kumar and mother-in-law Munni Devi were arrested on the charges of abetment of suicide and domestic violence, based on the statement of the woman’s family. “During interrogation, her husband said that Baby committed suicide after they refused to let her go to her maternal home. Her father Jagjit Singh, a resident of Mussallahpur Hatt, alleged that Vicky used to beat her up, and did not let her meet them, due to which she took the extreme step. Based on the complaint, the police arrested the husband and mother-in-law,” Kumar said, adding further investigation is underway. “The actual cause of the death will be known after the postmortem report comes.” He added after Baby was found hanging from the ceiling fan, her family took her to the nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. “The body was handed over to her parents after the postmortem examination,” he said. According to the relatives, Baby had got married to Vicky in 2024.
