Patna: Khagaul-Phulwari-Anisabad road witnessed massive traffic jams since early Sunday morning, leading to disruption of vehicular traffic. The traffic snarls caused immense hardship for people trying to reach Patna airport.
Those who had to catch flights to Delhi and Benguluru early Sunday morning reported difficulty in reaching the airport.
“I had booked my ticket for the Indigo Delhi flight scheduled at 8am for which I was supposed to reach the Patna airport around 6.45am from Mitra Mandal Colony area at Anisabad. The entire 2 km stretch was packed with hundreds of trucks. Taking a detour, I somehow reached the airport and boarded the flight in time,” said Delhi-based Dr Divya.
Similarly, software engineers—Dipti Sinha and Vijit—said they had booked their air tickets by Air India Express flight for Bengaluru which was scheduled to depart at 9.25am from the Patna airport. “We were dismayed to see the traffic snarls on the Khagaul-Phulwari-Anisabad stretch when we left home around 7.30am. Finding no way out, we were forced to take a 4 km detour from an alternative route to reach the airport. Surprisingly there was no traffic police to clear the jam,” they said in anguish.
In addition to air passengers, the traffic chaos also impacted people rushing to hospitals for medical emergencies. Several ambulances were delayed in the long queue of vehicles.
When contacted, Phulwari police gave no valid reasons behind the traffic jam on Sunday morning. However, around 9am traffic police were seen attempting to manage the flow of vehicles, but the congestion persisted for several hours, particularly on key stretches of the road, sources said, adding heavy vehicles were banned on this route from 6am to 10pm.
