Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney sharply criticized the White House on Tuesday after a leak of sensitive U.S. military plans, which were mistakenly sent to a journalist via Signal.
Carney emphasized the need for the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing alliance—comprising Canada, the U.S., Britain, Australia, and New Zealand—to learn from the incident, which involved Jeffrey Goldberg, Editor-in-Chief of The Atlantic, being inadvertently included on a private message chain discussing U.S. plans to bomb Yemen.
"Whenever sensitive intelligence is leaked, it’s crucial that lessons are learned to ensure it doesn’t happen again," Carney remarked in Halifax, Nova Scotia, responding to questions about the fallout from the chat detailing the planned airstrikes.
