NTPC-Nabinagar to add three 800-MW ultra-supercritical units

Aurangabad: In a significant move towards strengthening Bihar’s power infrastructure, NTPC-Nabinagar is gearing up for a major expansion under its stage-2 project with addition of three 800-MW ultra-supercritical units. With this, the plant’s total capacity will rise to 4,380 MW, making it one of the largest power plants in India.
Emphasising its potential to transform electricity generation in Bihar, head of the project, L K Behera, on Wednesday, said upon completion of the stage 2, the NTPC-Nabinagar will be the state’s first ultra-supercritical power plant, ensuring higher efficiency and sustainability.
The upcoming units in stage 2 will feature cutting-edge ultra-supercritical technology, which operates at higher temperatures and pressure to improve thermal efficiency. Additionally, NTPC-Nabinagar is adopting an air-cooled condenser system, a pioneering move in the region that will drastically reduce water consumption, making it an environmentally responsible initiative.
With the completion of the stage 2, Bihar will receive a significant boost of 1,500-MW thermal power, as per a power purchase agreement signed between NTPC and the state govt. This will help meet the rising electricity demand and support industrial as well as rural electrification initiatives.
Beyond power generation, NTPC-Nabinagar is actively contributing to development in 37 villages through corporate social responsibility initiatives, focussing on education, healthcare, infrastructure and skill development, ensuring holistic progress in the region.
