Patna: Even as the placement scenario in most of the technical institutions across the country appears to be bleak, the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT-P) has been showing a somewhat better picture in the current season (2024-25). As of now, more than 75% students of the current graduating batch have already been placed in reputed companies, while the process of placement is still underway and it is likely to continue till June this year.
IIT-P’s academic dean A K Thakur said from the 2025 graduating batch, about 80% students of artificial intelligence and data science, and more than 75% students of computer science engineering have been placed so far and the companies are still recruiting the students. “The most remarkable development of the ongoing placement season is the fact that M Sc mathematics students of this institution have secured 100% placement. The average annual package offered so far in the current season is Rs21.40 lakh,” he said.
Thakur further pointed out that some of the top organisations which have recruited students from the campus this season, include Google, Nvidia, Intel, Media.net, Amazon, Accenture, BPCL, HPCL, BEL, and Sprinklr. And, many more companies are yet to come. Each year, 20 to 25 new companies are invited to recruit IIT-P students, he said.
IIT-P director T N Singh said since its inception in 2008, the institution has consistently improved its placement statistics in key aspects, including the number of visiting companies, diversity of recruiting sectors, job profiles, and salary packages.
“The institute’s training and placement cell (TPC) has actively engaged with companies from diverse national and international sectors, ensuring that the students have access to high-quality career opportunities. The number of visiting companies has been increasing year after year. While, only 106 companies had visited in 2019-20, the number of visiting companies increased to 215 in 2023-24. More than 150 companies have already visited till date in 2024-25. In today’s highly competitive job market, it is a remarkable achievement that IIT Patna students have secured over 400 job offers in the last three consecutive placement seasons,” he said.
IIT-P’s placement officer Kripa Shankar Singh said that the placement cell has undertaken several initiatives to prepare students as per expectations of the industries. For this, talks by industry experts and HR professionals are arranged at regular intervals and mock interviews and assessments are also held for students for facilitating their campus placements, he said.
