Speaking at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center, economist Jeffrey D. Sachs claimed that a near-final peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine was derailed in March 2022 due to U.S. and UK intervention. Sachs alleged that the agreement, mediated by Turkey, was on the verge of being signed when Western allies stepped in and urged Ukraine to back out, prolonging the war.
