Trump Ordered Musk Briefing Cancelled Over China Concerns: Report
According to Axios, President Trump personally intervened to cancel a planned top-secret Pentagon briefing on China that was scheduled for Elon Musk. The move came after a leak about the meeting triggered internal tensions within the administration.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly suspended two senior Pentagon officials, Dan Caldwell and Darin Selnick, amid an investigation into the leak. A senior official cited by Axios quoted Trump as saying, “What the f**k is Elon doing there? Make sure he doesn’t go.” The report suggests that Trump was concerned about perceived conflicts of interest due to Musk’s deep business ties with China.
While administration sources told Axios that “POTUS still very much loves Elon, but there are some red lines,” the incident reportedly highlighted growing discomfort over Musk’s frequent visits to the White House and his unpredictable social media activity.
The New York Times first reported on March 20 that Musk was scheduled for a China-related Pentagon briefing the next day. Hours later, Trump dismissed the report on Truth Social, calling it “Fake News” and “completely untrue!!!”
However, Axios claims the cancellation had already been set in motion prior to that post.
