NOU convocation: 53 to get gold medals on April 22

Patna: Altogether 4,177 scholars who have passed the different examinations of 2023 and 2024 from Nalanda Open University (NOU) will receive their degrees at the university’s 17th convocation to be held at Bapu Sabhagar of Samrat Ashok Convention Centre here on April 22. As many as 53 students, who topped the postgraduate examinations in different subjects in regular batches will be awarded gold medals.
NOU vice-chancellor (VC) Ravindra Kumar said former VC of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Nageshwar Rao, will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address. Governor-cum-chancellor Mohd Arif Mohammed Khan will preside.
All the scholars would be required to wear the formal convocation dress prescribed by the chancellor’s secretariat while receiving their degrees. The prescribed dress for female recipients is a white ‘salwar’ and lemon yellow ‘kurta’ or lemon yellow-coloured ‘sari’ with a red border and red blouse. For male recipients, the dress consists of a white ‘kurta’ and white ‘pyjama’ or ‘dhoti’. All the scholars would be given Malviya ‘pagdee’ and ‘angvastram’ at the convocation site.
“The university has almost regularized its academic sessions by ensuring timely conduct of examinations and publication of results,” the VC said.
It may be mentioned here, established in 1987 in the light of the National Education Policy-1986, NOU has been admitting students to as many as 105 study programmes, including 28 postgraduate courses, seven PG diploma courses, 27 degree courses and more than 25 certificate courses. There is no limitation of seats in all these courses as these courses are open to all eligible students possessing the required qualifications. Women get a 25% concession in the fee at the time of admission.
