The Department of Higher Education in the Union Ministry of Education has prescribed that the country’s linguistic diversity and multilingualism should be highlighted during the celebration of the Bharatlya Bhasha Utsav, which falls on the birth anniversary of Subramania Bharati, on December 11.
In a circular, Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of the department, laid down objectives of this year’s celebration and mentioned the encouragement of usage of not only the respective mother Language, but also other Indian languages, and innovation and entrepreneurship through Indian languages; the understanding of diverse cultures in India and various forums of literature, craft, performing arts, scripts and other forms of creative expression and the promotion of Indian language in digital spaces, develop technologies and tools as the objectives. He suggested that “unique multilingual” events be held to mark the occasion. (EOM)
