President-elect Donald Trump on Monday urged the U.S. military to inform the public about the drone sightings that have plagued the East Coast in recent weeks.
“The government knows what is happening,” Trump said during a press conference in Palm Beach, Florida. “For some reason, they don’t want to comment. I think they’d be better off saying what it is our military knows and our president knows.” Trump added, “I can’t imagine it’s the enemy,” but declined to elaborate or confirm whether he had received an intelligence briefing on the issue. On Thursday, U.S. aviation authorities banned drone use at 22 infrastructure sites in New Jersey and 29 in New York State for 30 days due to a spike in sightings in the eastern U.S. Pilots operating in restricted areas risk interception and detention, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The decision follows weeks of mysterious drone sightings in New Jersey and neighboring states, raising public concern and fueling online conspiracy theories about potential foreign involvement.
