Madhubani: Darbhanga divisional commissioner Manish Kumar on Monday said Bihar was witnessing a rise in exports and the govt was committed to boosting e-commerce exports through various measures. “The goal is to make Madhubani, Jhanjharpur, Darbhanga, Samastipur and Dalsingsarai major export hubs,” he said.
A special workshop on promoting e-commerce exports was held in Darbhanga under his chairmanship. The event brought together officials, domain experts and trade representatives, including Madhubani DM Arvind Kumar Verma.
According to officials, Bihar’s exports have risen from Rs 5,781 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 16,645 crore in 2023-24 — an increase of about 187%. “The govt will push this figure even further, setting an ambitious target of achieving $200 billion in exports by 2030,” they said.
To achieve the govt’s export ambitions, the administration will encourage entrepreneurs by providing facilities and necessary assistance. The workshop focused on promoting exports in the Mithila region, which has deep cultural ties with Nepal.
The commissioner said Bihar was currently ranked 18th among all states in terms of exports. “Various policies and schemes are being implemented to improve this ranking,” he added.
During the workshop, officials informed participants about the facilities available for exporters, including incentives and support for businesses engaged in exports. They also highlighted initiatives such as the e-BRC policy and the e-Connect portal.
The event addressed challenges faced by exporters and explored potential solutions, with a strong focus on promoting regional industries and increasing their access to global markets.
To reach this goal, various initiatives are being implemented, including policy changes, improved infrastructure and financial incentives for businesses. The workshop concluded with discussions on future strategies to strengthen the export sector and enhance Bihar’s economic growth.
