Mokama shootout case: Police issue attachment notice at notorious gangster’s residence

Patna: Police on Thursday pasted an attachment notice at the residence of notorious gangster Monu Kumar in Nauranga-Jalalpur village, Patna district, for his alleged involvement in the Mokama shootout case last month. The 34-year-old history sheeter has been on the run for the last 23 days.
A police team from eight stations of the Barh sub-division in the district had pasted the notice to the sound of a drumbeat. Notices were also put up at the houses of Monu’s accomplices, Saurabh Kumar and Gautam Kumar, of the same village.
Barh ASP Rakesh Kumar, who was present at the spot, said that an FIR has been registered under sections 126 (2), 115 (2), 109 (1), 308 (5), 308 (4), 352, and 3 (5) of BNS at Panchmahla police station. “Non-bailable warrants have been issued against the accused. They are hiding to avoid the execution of these warrants. Subsequently, the court of ACJM III issued proclamation notices under section 82 of CrPC,” he added.
“Failure to appear before the court within the given time, the police will request the honourable court to issue seizure warrants against their movable property, and we will execute the seizure,” Rakesh said.
Monu’s sister and his family members fiercely protested against the notice. His sister, Neha Kumari, tore the notice in front of the police officers. She said, “I was the former Mukhiya of this Panchayat. This is my house; I built it. My grandfather donated the land to me. The notice has been pasted on my house. We will go to court against this.”
Reacting to the protest, the ASP said that the police were acting under the courts’ orders. “Their opposition to police action will be addressed through legal procedures. Investigation revealed that those named in the case engage in such activities, hiding themselves and transferring property to others’ names. These criminals have been residing at all these locations. Since their names have appeared in the case, they have employed various tactics to evade justice. We know they are residing there,” Rakesh said.
On January 22 this year, a heavy exchange of gunfire occurred between don-turned-politician Anant Singh’s group and a local gang of brothers Sonu-Monu in the Nauranga-Jalalpur village. The dispute stemmed from the alleged illegal house occupation by the latter gang. The former MLA Singh surrendered before the court in Barh on January 24.
