Motihari: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal activists on Friday drove away more than 50 love couples from different parks and gardens of Motihari town on Valentine’s Day.
They also took out an “anti-Valentine Day” rally in the town opposing the couples. A video of the incident went viral on the social media.
Eyewitnesses said a small group of VHP and Bajrang Dal activists visited Satyagrah park, Gandhi Smarak park, Belbanawa park, Narega park, Rajabazar park and other areas and drove away around 50 couples. They were armed with sticks to frighten the couples, they said.
Ashok Srivastav, advocate and secretary of Bihar and Jharkhand legal cell of VHP, leading the activists’ group, said the protest was against Western culture, celebration of Valentine’s Day and “vulgar behaviour” of couples in public place. “Some of the guardians of the couples were also called to the park and they also appreciated our action,” he claimed.
Vijay Kumar, SHO, Town police station, said he did not have information of any such incident.
