Lord Shiva’s wedding processions mesmerize Chhapra

Chhapra: People of Chhapra town on Wednesday witnessed Lord Shiva’s wedding processions taken out on the occasion of Mahashivaratri. The procession saw participants decked up as Lord Shiva (groom) and his wife Goddess Parvati (bride), along with others in get-up of ghosts and demons, besides animals like camels, horses and elephants.
At least two processions were taken out in the town — one from Manokamana Nath temple, Katra, and another from Ram Janaki Mandir, Chhatradhari Bazar.
Arun Kumar Singh, president of Manokamana Nath Temple Committee, and Suraj Prakash Singh, secretary of Ram Janaki Temple Committee, said that before the processions began, the local women presented “parichhawan” (auspicious wedding song for protecting the bride and groom from evils). The procession crossed through different streets of the town as thousands watched in awe and devotion. Different voluntary organizations had arranged refreshments, drinking water and other facilities en route for the people participating in the processions.
The district administration, on its part, ensured safe passage of the processions. Power supply was disconnected on the routes to avert any uncalled for incident.
