Ara: A gang of eight miscreants shot at a fisherman and decamped with his fish and net on the bank of the Ganga river in Bhojpur district on Thursday night. The incident took place at Barja village under Bihiya police station area of the district when Manager Mallah (50), a resident of Piparpanti village under the Krishnagarh police station area, went to the river to catch fish.
“When I was shot at, I jumped into the river to save my life. Later, I came out of the river and sought help from the local people, who, along with my family members, rushed me to a private hospital. The miscreants, who were eight in numbers, also looted about 10 kg of fish. They also decamped with my fishing net. My associate, Dasain Mallah, escaped unhurt in the attack,” said Mallah on Friday morning at a private hospital in Ara, where he is undergoing treatment.
Dr Harshwardhan, under whom the fisherman is undergoing treatment, told the reporters on Friday, “The bullet that got stuck in his neck after hitting his cheek has now been removed. He will be kept under observation, as as he bled profusely after being shot at.”
Bhojpur SP, Raj, said some of the culprits have been identified and raids are going on to nab them.
