Patna: A 25-year-old man, accused in a murder case and two extortion cases, was shot dead outside his home at Navhi village in Naubatpur area of Patna district late on Wednesday night. Police have detained some people for interrogation, but no arrests have been made yet, Deepak Kumar, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO)-II of Phulwarisharif said.
Patna superintendent of police (west) Sharath R S said Manish Kumar, alias Manu (25), was called outside his home around 9pm on Wednesday, after which the miscreants shot him thrice. “Manu was admitted to AIIMS-Patna with bullet injuries to chest, back and waist, but he died during treatment. The FSL team was called to the spot, and further investigation is underway,” he said.
Police recovered two empty shells and one live cartridge from the crime scene.
According to the family, Manu’s friend called him out late on Wednesday. When he stepped out, the criminals surrounded him, before shooting him thrice.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the local police reached the spot and took the injured to the hospital.
Deepak Kumar said the family lodged a complaint, naming one Manjot Singh and Manik Singh, besides against some other unidentified people. “The reason for the murder is not yet clear, however, we suspect that a personal dispute could be the cause. Manu was accused in a murder case and two extortion cases registered at Bihta police station. Search is on for the youth who took Manu away from his home, besides others,” he said.
The body was sent for postmortem examination.
