Patna: A non-resident Indian (NRI) from the United States was fatally shot during a chain-snatching incident in Vaishali district on Friday. The incident occurred around 9am near the Ufraul power substation under the Rajapakad police station area.
The victim, 35-year-old Rahul Anand, was travelling with his mother and daughter when two motorcyclists approached them, pretending to ask for directions. Seizing the opportunity, they attempted to snatch his gold chain. When Anand resisted, a struggle ensued, during which one of the assailants shot him in the chest before fleeing. Locals rushed Anand to a nearby hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to a private hospital in Patna, where he succumbed to his wounds.
Mahua SDPO Durga Shakti said, “Anand was working for a private company in the US on a work visa. He had recently returned to his native place to celebrate Holi with his family. CCTV footage has been reviewed to identify the criminals. One of the suspects is a notorious criminal from Vaishali with a Rs 25,000 bounty on his head. His name cannot be revealed at this stage.”
