Istanbul’s embattled mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, vowed to keep fighting after being suspended and jailed on March 23, a move that has triggered Turkey’s largest street unrest in over a decade.
For the fifth consecutive night, tens of thousands of protesters gathered outside City Hall, where Imamoglu’s wife, Dilek Kaya Imamoglu, delivered a fiery message to the authorities.
“He will defeat you! You will lose!” she declared from the platform. “The injustice Ekrem faced struck a chord with every conscience. People saw their own struggles in what was done to him.”
