Ara murder: Boy lights funeral pyre of father, sister

Ara: Amid wails and tears, Arush Kumar (10) lit the funeral pyres of father, Anil Kumar Sinha, a LIC agent, and his sister Arushi Kumari alias Jiya Kumari (20), an MBA aspirant at Gangi Ghat, Ara, who were shot dead at Ara railway station on Tuesday. His IITian sister, Sakshi Kumari, who rushed from Hyderabad, wept inconsolably, screaming for their father to come back.
The loss has left the family in ruins. Sakshi cried, “Papa was everything to us. He worked tirelessly for us. Papa, please come back….”
The horrifying chain of events that led to this moment unfolded on Tuesday evening at the Ara railway station foot overbridge. Arushi along with his father had come to the railway station to leave for Delhi when a man—Aman Kumar (24)—emerged from the shadows. Aman, a compounder by profession, had allegedly been obsessed with Arushi since his school days. Despite her attempts to move forward with her life, he continued to chase and harass her whenever she visited home, sources said.
At around 7.35pm, as Arushi and her father walked across the foot overbridge, Aman, his face covered with a black mask, approached from behind. He fired at Anil, causing him to collapse. Arushi screamed, but before she could react, Aman turned the gun on her, shooting her in the head. The station was frozen in shock. Then, as chaos erupted, Aman fired one final bullet—this time at himself. Aman was a resident of Asni village under the Udwantnagar police station area of Bhojpur district.
The tragedy played out in front of Arush, who had come with his father to bid farewell to his sister.
Ara GRP and the RPF have refused to comment on the incident, saying the probe would reveal the details.
Anil’s wife, Poonam Shrivastava, lodged an FIR on Wednesday.
The SHO of Ara GRP, Randhir Kumar, confirmed that an FIR had been lodged by Poonam. In her statement, she mentioned that they did not have enmity with anyone.
The police are investigating all possible angles, examining CCTV footage and call detail records (CDR) of the three cellphones recovered from the spot. A country-made pistol, along with a live and empty cartridge, have also been seized. The FSL team has collected samples from the spot.
