President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the U.S. will enter direct talks with Iran over its nuclear programme—but warned Tehran of “great danger” if it refuses to back down.
Speaking after a high-stakes meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump revealed that negotiations with Iran are set to begin on Saturday. He made it clear that the U.S. will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.
“We’re dealing with them directly, and maybe a deal will be made,” Trump said, adding that diplomacy is preferable “to doing the obvious.”
Pressed on whether military action is on the table if diplomacy fails, Trump issued a stark warning: “Iran is going to be in great danger—and I hate to say it.”
